Recorded in mono, simulated stereo.
"Qualia" is a piano improvisation recorded in the late fall of 2011 (the voices at the end are Demetrius Naybors and Dave Haughey) at the Canterbury House. I was recording over the master tape used for "Organ" (SMR006) and as I was digitizing "Qualia", what remained of the synthesizer improvisation seemed to oddly cohere with the newly-recorded piano improvisation. It has been recontextualized and presented here as "Quanta".
The two tracks are titled to reflect this recontextualization: "Qualia" referring to the chaotic, analog piano sound, and "Quanta" to the rational, digital synthesizer sound.
